In May 2017, I had the chance to visit this wonderful island. Located in the Caribbean, this island is very unique in the fact that, although it is so small, it is split down the middle into two different sides: the Dutch side, and the French Side (hence the two different names in the title of this post). For some context, I visited this island with my boyfriend for a week, and we stayed at a little condo on the water we found through AirBnB (not sponsored, just thought some of you might wonder). For this post, I’ve decided to keep the words to a minimum and let the photos do the talking. I hope you enjoy my visit to Sint Maarten/St. Martin!
The Dutch Side:
This is where the nightlife is. If partying is your thing, you will want to stay on this side of the island. There are some cool bars and clubs in this area. This is also where we found some of our favourite beaches on our trip.
The port in Phillipsburg (capital of the Dutch side) is a popular cruise stop
Philipsburg has cobblestone streets and colorful, colonial-style buildings lining its Front Street shopping area.
They also have the infamous airport beach on this side of the island, which is a big tourist attraction – they even have flight times streaming on a television in the nearby bars.
The French Side:
This is where we stayed, it is the quieter side of the island, but from what we found this side was a lot more focused on the culinary and historical aspects of the island, with tons of delicious cheap-eats as well as very impressive higher end restaurants.
One of the best dinners we had on the island. This was in Grand Case, which has a strip of wonderful restaurants on the water.
There is absolutely no filter on this picture – best sunset I’ve ever witnessed
Have you guys ever visited St. Martin? If not, would you visit?
