New Orleans – A Food Story๐Ÿ›๐Ÿค๐Ÿด

If any place tells the story of food well, it’s New Orleans. I spent a week there in 2016 and ate some of the best food I ever have abroad. The cuisine in this city is highly influenced by creole, cajun and soul food – everything is super flavourful. You can’t leave this lively city without trying jambalaya, gumbo, stewed beans, po’boys, crawfish and beignets.

Sadly, I didn’t happen to photograph everything I ate, but I managed to find some food pictures from my trip. Enjoy!

Standard breakfast but it had to be photographed because LOOK at the “side” of pancakes….ย 3 pancakes each bigger than my entire head (and that candied turkey bacon was delicious too).

Rice, stewed beans and cornbread

We didn’t actually eat here but had to go in and photograph the Bubba Gump restaurant (from the great Tom Hanks film Forrest Gump) – they also have a gift shop in-restaurant!

Probably one of the best meals we had all week – seafood jambalaya, crab cakes with garlic aioli, and fried crawfish

Breakfast with sausage gravy and biscuits – a traditional Southern dish (delicious!)

Alligator po’boy… yes you read that right. When in Rome, right?

And last but not least…

The famed Cafe du Monde! The little restaurant knownย around the world (at least to foodies) for its beignets and cafe auย lait! They add chicory to their coffee which gives it a chocolatey flavour, and coming from a non-coffee drinker, it was one of the best coffees I’ve ever had!

The beignets are sold in sets of 3, so we got a couple of sets between 4 of us. I had never tried beignets before this trip, and I don’t typically have a sweet tooth but these things are GOOD. Warm, fluffy and flakey goodness that everyone needs to try at least once in their lives.

This is me upon trying my first ever beignet – I was not kidding๐Ÿ˜‚

New Orleans is a lovely place, filled with jazz, music and great culture. I would totally recommend to anyone!

  2. New Orleans is still on my bucket list. We almost went there on our honeymoon, we had stopped the night before planning to go there on our way down to Florida, we turned the tv on, and they showed the people sweeping up the streets after the Mardi Gras party! We decided we would just continue on instead of stopping ๐Ÿ˜ฆ . oh well, somewhere still to look forward to visiting
